Here we are in typical tourist interaction. We may or may not have been trying to make a buck, but more likely, we were just moved to daahhhhnce.

We rode in this train compartment with a SCREAMING two year old and his negligent mother, for HOURS AND HOURS AND HOURS. Nelly went crazy, and is here talking to her reflection.

But we were sooooothed by the gorgeous german mountains!

Ok, and then... some clogs happened.

Many more pictures soon to come. We're still waiting for Micha to keep uploadin' in his free time, and we've got the ones from Munich and Amsterdam to edit down to internetable size.

Welp, we were walking down the street in Amsterdamn, on a sunny amsterdam morning, and then, all of a sudden, the next thing we knew, it was getting dark and we had been wandering around light headed all day. Nelly was acting really dumb too, for some reason. Weird. We couldn't understand what was going on.... could have maybe had something to do with the strange and pervasively sweet scent that seemed to waft from all of the little shops and coffehouses.... But we can't be sure.

Okay, so this will be organized by the places we wandered into in our daze.

We went on a boat tour with five thousand german tourists. The whole tour can be summed up as "More happened in Amsterdam than Anne Frank and the legalization of THC! We swear! Lookatdat house. And a pirate ship. And... er... pretty. houseboats."

And then we stopped at a "Gay and Lesbian Book Stand" which, incidently had NO lesbian stuff at all. In fact, nothing in that store had anything to do with women. They should have just taken the "Lesbian" part off the sign. We would like to tell the men to stop hogging all the space. Lucy had to be dragged from there fuming.

And then we found a store where all of our future home decorating supplies will come from. It was called "Kitch Kitchen" and it was filled with patterned plastic items in a stunning array of colors. We lay, curled on the floor with placemats, barbie shoes, umbrellas and dishes, purring for a good hour and a half. We actually had to be pried off the wallpaper.

We've been eating incredibly. Yesterday we had these fabulous pancakes, many felafels, numerous hotdogs, a slice of pie, french fries, a huge tai dinner, and some fruit. Um. We can't help it if, er, the air lends itself to a healthy appetite...

To fill in:
Venice was really just gorgeous. It had the most amazing food, and was absolutely wonderful. We met a friend, Misha (I hope we spelled that right, Misha!) who was really awesome, a beacon of hope and dorkishness in what has been somewhat of a dorkishless trip, despite our efforts. We all went out for Middle-eastern food on our last night (we had gotten a little tired of Pizza) and he was incredibly kind enough to take on our photos on his laptop, which he will hopefully upload soon, so we can get them to you fine folks. Also, he found a Sheckle... Shekkal? Sheckel? Oh you know what we mean.
An astonishing Venice fact, is that it is, in truth REALLY TINY. Not only did we run into Misha a couple of times, but we also entertained a brief conversation with two people we had on our Vatican tour, and, a few days later, a Brazillian boy we shared the overnight train compartment with, from Nice to Rome. But the most astonishing Venice meetup, was, as we cruised the Peggy Ghuggenhiem museum, we RAN INTO Victoria and Tara, Lucy's classmates from high school!!!
Unbelievable. Small Europe. Had a lovely grand-canal-side drink with them later that day, and filled each other in on our adventures.

Bidding Venice a fond goodbye, we locomotived ourselves to Munich, for a brief stay and a gander at the castles. We DO love castles, you know. Munich was pretty fabulous, though somewhat of a culture shock after all of the "old-worldy" places we had been before. From little windy scenic Venice to the bustling metropolis of Munich REALLY disoriented us, especially because we got in so late. We were starving, and everything was closed, so we found ourselves breaking down with the need for food and familiarity, and, we are ashamed to admit it, in McDonalds.
DON'T YELL AT US. WE KNOW WE'RE IN EUROPE, BUT DESPERATE TIMES!!!
Anyway, in order to suppliment this story, I must first tell you that the majority of people we have met along our way have taken one look at our blondeish hair and blue eyes and nordic skin, and immidiately thought we were Dutch or German tourists... usually they also assume we are sisters... Anyway.
So we go into McDonalds, and so ashamed are we to be Americans in our symbol of capitalist colonialism, McDonalds, that we decide to try to pass ourselves off as french. Somehow, this goes awry (switching between five or so different languages in a period of five weeks is more difficult than you would think, and we often find ourselves in a restaurant, and confounding the clerks by responding "oui" or "Gracias" when something else entirely is called for) Anyway, for some reason, the McDonalds clerk decides that we're ITALIAN, and is very kind to us, speaking in slow english and pointing with care to the brightly colored food panels above. "Don't worry," he says to us, "We get a lot of Italians coming in here." They must, because I don't think that many Munichers go, being that "Supersize me" is absolutely everywhere out there. So now we've been mistaken for Italian, Dutch, German, and sisters.

Also, fatigued and english hungry as we were, we decided to go see a movie. Ehem. We did not choose well. Welcome, Ladies and gentlemen, to the marvel comics universe, where real men are mopey little snippets right out of an old navy add that some how manage to fight evil even when wearing ridiculous masks, and the women with perfect skin and dyed hair stay out of the action if they now whats good for them, occaisonally being kidnapped and screaming perkily to set off the hero's quest. Oh yes, we saw Spiderman 2. Spidir-Mon. And that movie would have been much better if Aunt May had bitten the dust in the first 5 minutes. Also, if the dialog hadn't come out of a cliches ass. In the movies defense, Professor Otto Octavious, played by Diego Riveria, was devestatingly attractive to us, in the fine tradition of Lucy and Nelly's no-we-dont-think-pasty-middle-aged-brittish-men-are-at-all-attractive-what-are-you-looking-at-swan.

In other Munich news, we took a train out to Fussen to see Neuschwanstein, Ludwig's most famous castle. The train ride took us through gorgeous Germanic countryside, which was very scenic, but it also took a hellofa long time, so we didn't get there until the tours stopped running and we couldn't go inside. Nonetheless, we clamboured up the hill to walk around the ramparts and stuff. It was gorgeous, very fairy tale. Later, on the train back, we sat in close quarters with number of other American kids who were touring Europe. We were reading, but couldn't help but overhear them talking about Ludwig as being 'crazy' and having never married due to his madness. Lucy was quick to correct their false assumptions.

And then we ate some mush at a place called Wiener Wald. It was literally Mush. But then, what do you expect from a place called Wiener Wald? (Hums Wonder Wall by Oasis)

Then we booked on to Amsterdam, where we are now, eating really well and enjoying the place. It's Sunday, unfortunately, so little is open. We're staying in a Christian youth hostel, so we were awoken at five thirty this morning to the sound of all of our bunkmates getting up to go to Church. We're looking for other places to stay. The city is gorgeous, and the pancakes are great, though.

We also had a fabulous dinner (to make up for our Wiener Wald experience) at this bohemien-licious place near our hostel. Yum. Pictures soon, we promise.

Conversation Number 1. The following is a remembered (roughly) conversation that actually took place, sometime in our Rome tenure, but that we were too scarred about to speak of until now:

Gentleman standing in line with us, now to be known as Craggy Faced Man, or CFM: You done this before?
Nelly: Um. Yeah, it's not too hard, where are you going?
CFM: Well, I'm travellin' wit' mah baby girl, she's out shoppin'. We're goin' to Germany. I been before, but mah girl hasn't ever been nort' a louisiana, so ah thought I'd take her to Europe.
Lucy: Oh, that's nice. How are you enjoying your trip?
CFM: Ah, well, its nice an' all, but man oh man, 'dis here country is CAHRAYZAY. So many po' people! They single you out, you know. They can tell an American. We got bigger hearts.
Lucy and Nelly: ....
CFM: Why, jus' the other day, Ahm sittin in McDonalds wit mah daughter, and dis little Italian chile comes up wit his hands out like dis. (makes pleading hand gesture). So Ah take him up to the counter, and I say, 'You hungry? Pick a numbah!' an' the kid jus didn't know what to do! He couldn't believe it, until finally he hol's out his hands like dis! (makes a 'two' sign with is fingers). Ah bought him that hamburger, and he went and he sat an' ate it, jus like that. HA!
Lucy and Nelly (edging away quietly): Um... how... nice of you.
CFM: Where ya'all from?
Nelly: Well, she's from New York-
CFM: New York City? (makes disgusted face.)
Nelly: And my parents live in Paris.
CFM: Ah! Oui, Madame! Parlez vous francais?
Nelly: Oh, you speak french?
CFM: Yeah, y'see, ahm from New Orleans. Dey speak french there, an' so ah went to Paris, an' ahm debatin' with them, bout politics an' the like, an' they say, 'oh, you're not french?' and so ah say, 'no! I'm somthin' bettah, I'm an American!'
Lucy and Nelly: (stunned silence)
CFM: Oh, look, its mah turn. (goes up to the italian ticket counter and screams into the mouthpiece) YOU SPEAK ENGLISH?

Conversation Number 2. This conversation went the way almost all our conversations go... Though you might not understand a word of it (actually, a lot of it is translated from Lullyish to English), it may seem non-complimentary, but know that we mean it with the utmost affection and llama references.

L: Why is there always only ever one sparrow in a flock of pigeons? (sparrow hops over) Doesnt it look like Beck?
N: What??
L: yeah! Its small, brown and hoppity. And squeaky. And it has a beaky nose.
N: Um...
L: (throws sparrow some bread) And look it likes bread! Beck likes bread.
N: I like bread too. Im a little disturbed you consider Beck a sparrow. Have you told her this?
L: Oh yeah, she really likes birds, she talks about them all the time. She used to be one of those birdy birdy heads who sat around in the woods with a refernce book and a pair of binos.
N: Bird watching?
L: Yeah.
N: HAHAH! Shes not a sparrow! Shes KRONK! From the Emperors New Groove, for the un enlightened. (does Kronk voice) 'Gasp! A yellow bellied warbeler! Thats another for exotic bird bingo! Im loving this!'
L: And that would make me Yzma? 'HAHAHAHAHA, I ween.'
N: YES. 'WHYYYY DO WE EVEN HAVE THAT LEVVAAAH!'
L: 'GASP! My spinach puffs!'
N: HAH! I bet Beck even does her own theme music! 'NAHHHHHHH.'

In news from the non-completely-insane world...
The bathroom at this hostel? Lets just say its not completley up to the Nelly and Lucy standard for Hygene. In fact, it had previously resided in someone's anus.

EVERYWHERE WE GO, HER SONG IS THERE. We have plans to rescue her from the vicious corporate manipulators that control herrrr.
We spent today in the Vatican, where we saw plenty of gorgeous catholic art, but our feet were walked off, and we, unfortunately, didn't eat before the tour, so we were awed by the sistine cieling and opressed by St. Peters on EMPTY STOMACHS. FOR HOURS. AND HOURS. Ahem.
Still no pictures yet.
Yesterday we went to the Forum and around the town (trevi fountain, spanish steps, the Pantheon...). The forum was especially cool, and our free tour guide told us lots of cool stories (did you know ancient romans washed their clothes in pee?), as well as explaining that, "if you could believe it..." there were still worshippers of the polytheistic ancient Roman and Greek religions.... Ahem. We wanted to tell her we knew one of those worshippers, "if she could believe it."
Also, we found out that Achilles had an experience with necrophelia.... We hadn't recalled that....
Tomorrow we leave for Venice. To see it before it sinks...

Well.... This update is sort of pointless, because besides the everyday brilliant things we do and say, pretty much all we've done is go to the beach and eat pickles. In all seriousness, we've eaten an entire head-sized jar of cornichons within a two-day period. The beach is still gorgeous.
OH WAIT! We flew yesterday!
We Parasailed, which is the activity that, according to Lucy and Nelly physics, doesn't really make a lot of sense, but works anyway. It's the closest approximation to flying without the aid of Wonka's Fizzing whizbees (or whatever the hell they're called). What happens, as far as we can tell, is a group of five or six young, incredibly tan, buff french beach boys strap you into unattractive harnesses and hook you to a parachute, then attatch you to a motorboat and drive it into the sea. We did it together, and got to look down at the azure water from about 100 meters and kick our legs in the air.

Item one:
Lucy and Nelly are happily ensconced in our oceanfront bungalo (scungy hostel about ten blocks from the beach), enjoying the luxuries of fabulous tans (scorching sunburns of dooooom).
Item two:
Anyone who tells you it's difficult for two little American girls with no experience, trouble with balance, and a overcautious nature to operate a genu-wine electric scooter (moped, for laymen), are obviously trying to prevent you from having any fun whatsoever, and underestimates Lucy's innate sense of mopedation.
Item three:
It's so frikkin beautiful here, that our souls have flown out our noses (we expect somewhere along the gorgeous palm tree lined road by the azure coast (ITS REALLY AZURE!) as we sped by on our scooter of bliss). If only things here didn't cost our entire bank accounts. Oh well, we're eating bread. As in, one loaf.
Item four:
Due to certain hair related circumstances, Nelly is now Julie Andrews, and Lucy has become Liza Minelli. Pictures to follow at some unnameable date in the (hopefully) near future.

Today we found what comes close to the actual materialized version of our own heaven on earth, in a place called St. Joseph´s Market, which is acres of semi-outdoor food vendors of all varieties, brimming with strange fruits, cheeses, vegetables, candies, meats, bread objects and all manner of good tasting things. We went wild there for a while, and then, shovelling Spanish candies into our mouths, we crossed the street to the Museu De Erotique, which housed a delightful collection of erotic art, photos, sculptures and other miscellany. Some really excellent stuff, I have to say. We liked the 1920s spanish porno about the maid and the butler and the mistress. The butler was reeeeally skinny and the two women were quite plump. It was awesome. (Parents, for the record, this was about the ART!)
Then we got on the metro and embarked on a journey up the steepest and most ridiculous hill on the face of the planet, to the Parc Gruell, which housed a crapload of Gaudi´s designs and sculptures/buildings/fountains. It was gorgeous, and the climb afforded us an incredible view of the city, though it made us very hot and sweaty, so our next stop was THE BEACH! Where once again we frolicked in the surf.
Now we´re debating where to head for dinner, while we do some laundry.
We´re unable to elude the sun, and keep finding strange spots of sunburn...

You know, everyday we face the hardships and trials that come from being forced to lounge around on a beach, our poor eyes forced into squinting from the harsh glare of the sun glinting off the mediterrainian water of the coast of Spain, and our only hope is, that when we drag ourselved to the internet cafe, covered in salt and sand, to know that people are reading this journal and being envious of us, so we need some comments here, you guys, or we might just stop putting photos up entirely, and give you, instead, this....

(it says: "Look, they are pale! And they have their tops on! Weird¨."
It´s us on the beach, in case you couldn´t tell, done with the fabulous Paint program and a mouse.
Meanwhile, nowhere will let us upload our photos, not even this fancy digital camera internet cafe.
We´re eating and drinking incredibly well, but as far as art goes... well.. We´re working on trying to tear ourselves away from the beach at this point. The walk there is gorgeous, and flanked with these beautiful trees which shed orange blossoms that look like neon orange snow.
More details once we get some pictures uploaded, but in the meantime, WE NEED YOUR COMMENTS SO WE ARE ASSURED THAT YOU HAVEN´T FORGOTTEN US!!!

Last night we met up with Zan and Andy and went to our first London Pub, afterwhich we went for sushi at a place where it comes to you by conveyer belt, and then to a pretty brilliant french punk show.
This morning we went to Madame Tussaud's, in another 'Lucy Remembered doing this and thinking it was cool when she was twelve and therefore it must be cool still' trip. It would have been cooler if Michael Jackson wasn't imprisoned in a little cage, but we did get to see some of our favorite historical figures and get our pictures taken with them. It was difficult to supress the rampant clone high quoting, but we did our best, even after we saw JFK, Lincoln and Gahndi within ten feet of one another. Highlight was getting our pictures with Oscar Wilde, who was looking rather bored with the situation, which we can't blame him for, being that he was surrounded by american diplomats and crazed tourists who didn't recognize him. All in all, way better than the last 'lucy at twelve' trip, which was to the London Dungeons, though eerily similar in certain ways.
Then we wandered over to the queen's garden, where we exhuberantly frolicked in the copious roses and lupins with a teen DANCE CAMP, that's right, beautiful dancers in various states of undress, prancing like nymphs through the incredibly gorgeous garden paths. We came upon a grove where old people dozed in deck chairs, rented ourselves some-a those chairs, and promptly fell asleep for an hour.
Then we went in search of the London Zoo, where we got to see lots of animals that you can't see in the states, as well as some that, well... you can. We liked the giraffes best. Now we're in an internet cafe in Camden town, wandering in search of a tube station to take us back to the sterile heat of our hostel, and our newest roommates.
We are sunburnt. End of line.

So then we woke up, and we were in London. We had some really good sandwiches. We took lots of amazing pictures. But its really hard to type on these hostel-y computers, and they wouldn't let us upload phooootoooos. So imagine, imagine, and youll see them soon.
Right here would be a picture of us with the queen.
And here? A picture of us and Harry Potter.
In truth? Most of our pictures are (actually) of us on Damien Hurst's (sp?) boat, jetting up the Thames and drinking champagne (the booze is a fabrication).
It's amazingly hot in this computer lab, and we still have email to check, so as soon as we can barter some cows for computer access, we will upload some pictures.

Three Options so far-

1. Theres a YWCA (YWCA Foyer di Roma) walking distance from the train station (termini) maybe we could stay there for one night or something, it costs 62/70 EUR for a double.

OR

2. We could camp! Villiage Camping Flaminio. Tents and Bungulows are 9.50-12 EUR to rent

OR

3. Hotel Cervia, dont know where it is, but it has dorm beds for 20 EUR a night. # 06 44 10 57. Parlez vous l'italien?

Alright, we figured most of this out already, but I don't remember it. We want to take a day trip, so we either need to rent a moped. Judging by the google search I just did, thats going to be kinda hard. I'm guess 20-30 EUR for a day, or something, though. Or take a bus.
